Peter Høeg (b. 1957)

Høeg burst onto the American literary scene with Smilla's Sense of Snow (1992), which made it onto the New York Times bestseller list. He is one of the few Danish writers who can claim such a distinction. A Hollywood movie was made, loosely based on the novel, which contains some rather drastic differences from the original text.

Høeg seems to enjoy engaging in a dialogue with other literary texts. His Image of the 20th Century (1988) addresses Borges's 100 Years of Solitude. Tales of the Night (1990) is a literary response to the tales of Isak Dinesen.
