Scandinavian Life and Civilization.

This course, open to freshmen, takes an introductory look at Scandinavia. Through a diverse series of guest lectures, films, and some discussions, we explore the arts, culture, geography, history, languages, literature, music, and politics of the Scandinavian countries. The goal is to provide a broad introduction to Scandinavia as a region playing an important role in the past history and contemporary culture of the world. Students wishing to gain a more in-depth knowledge of Scandinavia may use this class as the first step on the way towards a majr in Scandinavian Studies. Typically, all the professors from the Scandinavian Department lecture, and several graduate students also present their expertise on a variety of topics.
