This course surveys shamanism as a religious tradition, historical phenomenon, and scholarly construct. It provides a comprehensive examination of shamanic traditions from various parts of the world, with careful attention to both differences and commonalities across cultures. Special attention is paid to traditional shamanic roles and the practices and status of shamanism in the world today. This course satisfies the Ethnic Studies requirement..
