Scandinavian Studies 426.
Kierkegaard and Scandinavian Literature.
 (Allen)
(3-4 credits)

Søren Kierkegaard is one of the most influential thinkers and writers of the 19th century, but his work is often considered without regard to the specifically Danish environment that inspired it. In this course, we seek to remedy this deficiency by considering Kierkegaard and his oeuvre in terms of both its socio-historical context of Golden Age Denmark, but also as part of an ongoing dialogue about religion, morality, literature, and society with other great thinkers, writers, and theologians of the time.
