Modern Scandinavian Drama. (Thresher)
(4 credits)
This course examines the development
of theater in Scandinavia in the wake of Henrik Ibsen and
August Strindberg. It places modern Nordic theater in a
wider European context and analyses dramatic responses
to, for example, Brechtian drama, theater of the absurd,
neo-expressionism, and avant-garde performance models.
Sample dramatists include Pär Lagerkvist, Cecilie
Løveid, Jon Fosse, Per Olov Enquist, Jens Bjørneboe,
Astrid Salbaach, Kaj Munk, and Kjeld Abell.
