Scandinavian Studies 437.
Modern Scandinavian Drama.
 (Thresher)
(4 credits)

This course examines the development of theater in Scandinavia in the wake of Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg. It places modern Nordic theater in a wider European context and analyses dramatic responses to, for example, Brechtian drama, theater of the absurd, neo-expressionism, and avant-garde performance models. Sample dramatists include Pär Lagerkvist, Cecilie Løveid, Jon Fosse, Per Olov Enquist, Jens Bjørneboe, Astrid Salbaach, Kaj Munk, and Kjeld Abell.
