Tom joined the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000.
He holds a Ph.D. in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches, writes and researches on a variety of Nordic topics, particularly Finnish and Sámi. He currently holds the Birgit Baldwin Chair of Scandinavian Studies and is a member in the Religious Studies Program as well as the Folklore Studies Program. |
Tom is currently on sabbatical.
He will return to teaching in the Fall semester 2009 when he will teach Intensive Elementary Finnish as well as his course Sámi Culture Yesterday and Today.
Tom is working together with the University's Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian to plan and host BALSSI, the Baltic Studies Summer Institute. Click on the link for more information on this exciting learning opportunity.
