Steven Sondrup of BYU has undertaken an exciting new project entitled Histories of Nordic Literary Cultures. The project will culminate in a series of volumes, edited by Steven Sondrup and Mark Sandberg (University of California at Berkeley). Dr. Dan Ringgaard and I are editing the volume of the series which focuses on the role of place and language in shaping the production, reception, and exchange of literary products in, the Nordic region over time.

I spoke on a related topic during the NORLIT conference, held 16–18 August 2007 in Helsinki. The conference theme was: "THE ANGEL OF HISTORY: Literature, Literary Culture, and History."

My talk was entitled "Taking Place: Place in the Construction of History in Nordic Literature" and is meant to illustrate the kinds of articles we envision for the volume.
