Kim Nilsson
Department of Scandinavian Studies
Kim Nilsson
Kim Nilsson

Kim Nilsson is emeritus professor in linguistics, Finnish, stylistics, and occasionally advances Swedish in the department.  He has also taught Old Norse, Kalevala and Finnish folklore, Finland-Swedish literature and bit of Bibliography and methods, a sliver of children's literature, and probably something else.   He has published in most of those areas.

Nilsson has headed the department a number of years, ten in all.  As Chair-wallah, he initiated the one credit, five week modules that have given much flexibility and scope to the department's curriculum.

Right now he is doing sabbath in Finland until September 1998.  He intends to investigate details of contextual priming in speech, and also the finer features of Bernoulli's law as it applies to Baltic winds over Nilsson's sails.

Nilsson turns gloomy when he recalls his 1996 lecture on sports in Scandinavian Life and Civilization.  It was a disaster.  His moments of joy are those when his students gasp "heureca" and become scholars.
