Since the advent of
the website, our department has attempted to bring more information
to our students and to the public at large. In spring 1998, Susan
Brantly took part in the In Time program that was
being facilitated by LSS.
This allowed her to incorporate pictures and sound into her lecture
for Masterpieces
of Scandinavian Literature course offered every spring by
our department.
In the summer of that
same year, Niels Ingwersen began
taping the course The Tales of Hans
Christian Andersen. Ingwersen, along with Scott
Mellor and William Tishler went to Denmark and filmed
60 hours of video that would become the core of the course. The
course is offered both fall and spring semesters and is broadcast
on WHA. There is also a web component developed for the class
written by Mellor.
Developed during the
2000-2001 school year and offered for the first time in the summer
of 2001 was a course on 19th Century
Scandinavian Literature, again from the desk of Susan Brantly
with the technical help of Ron Cramer from LSS and Brad
Berkland. This time the course was CD-ROM based with a web
site component. This course is offered every summer, but also
is available for independent study.
Currently, the department
is developing one new course on the Baroque, a collaborative
effort between Susan Brantly and Niels
Ingwersen, and working towards putting The
Tales of Hans Christian Andersen course on DVD in order to
make it more widely available to students off-campus.
