Introduction

This lesson introduces some of the basic features of Romanticism and examines it as a response to the Enlightenment. Tegnér's Viking adventure Frithiof's Saga continues a number of typical Romantic features. Folklore was also important during the Romantic period and Jørgen Moe's tale "The Smith They Didn't Dare Let into Hell" allows us to discuss a number of folklore genres.
