Introduction

This lesson looks at the connections between painting and literature during the Modern Breakthrough. Christian Krohg is a major Norwegian painter, who wrote Albertine, a novel about a young woman driven to prositution. Kielland's "Karen" tells the story of another working class girl who falls victim to the double morality of society.
