Like its title suggests, Knut Hamsun's Mysteries tells a tale riddled with mysteries. A mysterious stranger, Nagel, arrives in a small Norwegian town and becomes entangled in the town's provincial life. His unusual behavior awakens interest and alarm in some of the natives. Hamsun is a major innovator in the narrative of the novel.
