Introduction

This lesson introduces the Norwegian author, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, who was famous throughout Europe during the 19th Century, but who may be best known today as the author of the Norwegian national anthem. Bjørnson had a deep love of Norway and his tales of country life present a Romantic view of the life and customs of the Norwegian peasantry.
