Lesson 6Lesson 1
Stella Kleve and Herman Bang

Introduction

This lesson continues to look at issues of sexual morality during the Modern Breakthrough, and the dire consequence thought to follow sexual abstinence. Stella Kleve's female protagonist in "Pyrrhic Victories" seems to be actually dying of complications caused by celibacy. The thwarted desires of Franz Pander in Herman Bang's story drive him to a desperate end.
