Chat

Availability: Please check the syllabus to find out whether chatroom participation is available for the version of the course you are taking.  You should also find information about when the chatroom meets.

Why chat?:  Some students prefer a live interaction with a group to the slower pace of the bulletin board.  Others find that participation in chat gives them more discipline, since they know they should have the work done before attending.  Generally, chat sessions tend to cover more ground than the bulletin boards and one is able to interact directly with the instructor.

Participation Points:  If chat is an option, then students can choose to earn their particpation points through chat, rather than postings to the bulletin board.  You must notify the instructor during the first week of class if you are choosing this option, and you cannot change your mind.  Students must do either chat or the bulletin board, but not both.

Summer: Students earning points through chat must attend and participate actively 4 out of 5 days per week.

Semester: Students are expected to participate actively each week and are allowed a maximum of two absences.

Chat Transcripts:  Transcripts are available of chat session for review by all class members. [To view a transcript of a chat, click on the book icon to the right of that chat in the Chat room.]
