Lesson 10Lesson 10
A Static World is Changing

Introduction

The world was changing in the 19th Century. There was a change in government and a change in society. The Absolute Monarchy was abolished in Denmark in 1848, and the coming of the industrial revolution changed the demographics of the country. Andersen's stories reflected these changes.  This was a time of alienation and future shock.
